The Redemption Collection
Although this is not a Christmas or wintery collection, the song “In the Bleak Midwinter” captures what I was trying to express. The song opens as an acceptance of the darkness in the world and an overall sense of hopelessness. The bleak midwinter becomes a visual anchor for this feeling.
But the last two verses express the intercedence of love given. It’s a simple and humble poem that speaks to the core of what the gospel is.
The moody, cloudy scenes set on a coast give a feeling of the bleak midwinter. Being in a natural environment as relentless and reckless as a saltwater shore gives me a humble reality check. But the beauty in the scenes are reflective of the grace that’s given without any expectation of payment. It’s a reminder that “as poor as I am” He sees, knows, and loves me.
